Research opening at IISER Tirupati
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Tirupati invites applications from Indian nationals for one Project Associate-I / Junior Research Fellow position under advertisement 91/2026. Project and work
The DBT, Ministry of Science and Technology funded project is “Enhancing regeneration and editing efficiency in groundnut and pigeonpea for trait improvement”. Its stated work includes generating transgenic groundnut lines using genome-editing approaches. The principal investigator is Dr. Swarup Roy Choudhury. The appointment is with IISER Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The online interview arrangement is a selection format; the notice does not offer a work-from-home research appointment.
Essential qualification and desirable experience
MSc in Botany, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Agricultural Sciences, Plant Sciences or equivalent; Indian nationals. Qualifications must be from recognised universities/institutions and must be held by the application closing date. Candidates awaiting final-examination results are not eligible. Two years of experience in plant tissue culture and plant molecular biology is desirable, rather than an essential minimum in the notice. Applicants should explain relevant laboratory work and techniques accurately in the prescribed form.
Age and the two fellowship levels
The maximum age is 30 years as on the closing date, 13 November 2026. Fellowship is ₹37,000 per month plus 10% HRA for applicants with valid CSIR/UGC-JRF, NET, GATE or a qualifying national-level test conducted by central government departments or their agencies. Eligible applicants who do not fall within that examination category receive ₹30,000 per month plus 10% HRA. The higher amount is conditional and should not be assumed for every applicant.
Tenure and appointment conditions
The initial offer is for six months. The position is temporary and co-terminus with the project; it ends automatically on project termination, without a claim to absorption in IISER Tirupati or the funding agency. Funding-agency conditions also apply. Selected candidates must join immediately after receiving the offer. A selected candidate may separately apply for IISER Tirupati’s regular PhD programme if its eligibility requirements are met; selection here does not itself confer PhD admission.
