Junior Court Assistant – 250 Tentative Vacancies
The Supreme Court of India has opened online applications for 250 tentative Junior Court Assistant vacancies in its Registry. Advertisement No. F.6/2026-SC(RC), dated 30 September 2026, identifies the posts as Group B Non-Gazetted appointments in Pay Level 6, with initial basic pay of Rs. 35,400 plus admissible allowances. This is a government recruitment opportunity, not an internship or a direct appointment without an examination.
Applications run from 7 October to 28 October 2026 at 11:55 p.m. IST. The application portal is live. Graduates considering the opening should check the computer-typing requirement, eligibility cutoff and examination stages before paying the fee.

Degree, computer knowledge and typing eligibility
The recruitment is open to Indian citizens who meet the prescribed conditions. The essential educational qualification is a bachelor's degree from a recognised university in India. Applicants must also have knowledge of computer operation and a minimum English typing speed of 35 words per minute on a computer. A degree alone does not satisfy the complete eligibility requirement.
The qualification and eligibility cutoff is 1 September 2026. Candidates should compare their degree records and other eligibility documents with that date, rather than assuming that becoming eligible by the closing date is sufficient. The notification does not specify a previous-employment experience requirement, but applicants still need to qualify through the prescribed selection process.
Age limit, reservation and employment conditions
Candidates should be between 18 and 30 years of age as on 1 September 2026. The advertisement provides usual age relaxations for the listed categories under applicable government rules. It specifically states that employment in other government departments, public sector undertakings or banks does not itself provide age relaxation. Applicants claiming a concession should check the exact provision and keep the required supporting certificate ready.
Reservation is governed by the stated Supreme Court Officers and Servants rules. Candidates already working in Central or State government departments, nationalised banks or public sector undertakings must submit a No Objection Certificate from their employer at document verification. The notice also requires candidates who obtain employment during the recruitment process to inform the Recruitment Cell.
Application fee and important payment caveat
The non-refundable application fee is Rs. 1,500 for General/Unreserved candidates. The stated fee for SC, ST, OBC Non-Creamy Layer, ex-servicemen and physically challenged candidates is Rs. 750, with bank charges payable in addition. Payment must be made online through the prescribed gateway; postal applications and other payment methods are not accepted.
The advertisement states that a paid fee will not be refunded. As practical advice, verify eligibility and the selected category before paying. Do not treat payment or successful registration as confirmation that the Court has accepted your eligibility.
Selection stages and examination pattern
The process includes an objective examination, an English computer-typing test, an English descriptive written test and an interview. The objective test contains 100 questions for 100 marks, lasts one and a half hours, and requires at least 50 marks to qualify. Its subjects include English, aptitude, general knowledge, provisions relating to the judiciary, relevant Supreme Court rules and computer knowledge.
The typing test lasts 10 minutes and requires the prescribed 35 wpm speed; the notice permits mistakes up to 3% of the total words typed. The descriptive examination covers comprehension, precis writing and essay writing, with a duration of two hours. The interview carries 25 marks, with 13 stated as the minimum qualifying score.
The objective examination is tentatively scheduled for 20 November 2026. There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect objective answer. Qualifying the minimum marks does not guarantee progression: the notice sets merit-based shortlisting ratios for later stages. The typing test must be qualified before the descriptive answers are evaluated.

Checks before final submission
The notice says a submitted application cannot be withdrawn or modified and requests for category changes will not be entertained. Names and date of birth must agree with the specified school certificate; a changed name needs the stated supporting documentation. Do not assume an undocumented spelling or date discrepancy can be corrected later.
Typing and descriptive tests are to be held in Delhi/NCR; the interview may be online or physically in Delhi as directed by the competent authority. This interview provision is not a remote-work offer. No TA/DA is payable for attending the tests or interview. Candidates needing disability-related concessions should read the relevant annexures and documentation requirements.
