Consultant (Hindi)
National Council of Science Museums is inviting eligible retired candidates for one Consultant (Hindi) engagement in Kolkata. Advertisement 18/2026 is dated 14 October 2026, and the walk-in selection is on 6 November 2026. This is a full-time, purely contractual appointment for an initial six months. It requires a qualifying master’s degree and at least 20 years of relevant experience; it is not a fresher vacancy.

Master’s degree and language combinations
The notice provides five qualification routes. A recognised master’s degree in Hindi is accepted with English as a compulsory/elective subject or degree-level examination medium. A master’s in English is accepted with the corresponding Hindi condition.
A master’s in another subject can qualify with Hindi medium and the stated English condition, or with English medium and the stated Hindi condition. The fifth route covers a master’s in another subject with the specified Hindi-and-English subjects or medium/subject combination at degree level. Read the exact official wording and compare your degree transcripts; an unrelated master’s alone does not establish eligibility.
Retirement, experience and age conditions
Applicants must be retired and have at least 20 years of experience in Rajbhasha-related activities, including English-to-Hindi and Hindi-to-English translation, in Central or State Government, PSUs, or Central/State autonomous bodies. The age limit is 63 years as on 6 November 2026.
The responsibilities include advice and implementation of official-language programmes, reports, questionnaires, workshops and seminars, translation and Hindi/English typing, including Unicode or Krutidev as required. This is an experienced official-language consultancy rather than a general content-writing internship.
Remuneration and contract restrictions
For retired Central Government servants drawing pension under the CCS Pension Rules, the monthly amount is determined by deducting basic pension from the pay drawn at retirement, under applicable government guidelines. The notice does not publish a flat salary or permit a generic take-home estimate.
No accommodation or house rent is provided. Other allowances such as HRA, CGHS/medical facilities and medical reimbursement are not included beyond the stated consolidated remuneration. Applicable taxes are deducted at source. The contract does not confer benefits or a right to regular employment at NCSM.
Full-time work and possible extension
The initial six-month contract may be extended subject to functional need, performance and medical fitness. The consultant cannot take another assignment during the engagement, must follow normal office timing and attendance requirements, and may be called on Sundays or holidays for work needs.
Paid leave is stated as 1.5 days for each completed month, with the notice’s restrictions on carry-forward and other leave. NCSM reserves termination rights; the normal course provides 30 days’ notice or remuneration, while the candidate must provide at least one month’s notice. These conditions should be read before accepting.
Walk-in reporting and documents
Report at 10:00 a.m. sharp on 6 November 2026 at National Council of Science Museums, 33 Block GN, Sector V, Bidhannagar, Kolkata 700091 for registration and document verification. The test starts at 11:00 a.m., followed by interview or personal interaction.
