The main page’s general section also describes a range from 45 days to one year for internship, summer training, project or research work. When seeking clarification, identify the SM-SC internship programme and explain your degree, current semester or completion date, and the period your institution requires. The official page lists admissions@iirs.gov.in for training and academic enquiries. The page also says extensions will not be entertained, so applicants should not plan on extending an initially approved period later.
Internship and student project training are different routes
The same IIRS page contains a separate Student Project Trainee Scheme, described as offline. It should not be confused with a blanket eligibility rule for every SM-SC applicant. Its table gives these academic-stage conditions:
- BE/BTech: completion of the sixth semester.
- ME/MTech: completion of the first semester.
- BSc/Diploma: final-year status.

A diploma entry in this separate project scheme should not be read as proof that the short-internship application accepts every diploma holder. Applicants should confirm which route matches their course requirements rather than assuming the two schemes are interchangeable.
Stipend, fees and living arrangements
IIRS explicitly excludes stipend, remuneration and financial assistance for interns and project trainees. It also excludes accommodation facilities during training at the relevant Department of Space or ISRO centre. Applicants considering Dehradun should assess travel and living costs themselves. This is not a paid internship or a work-from-home offer.
The admissions calendar shows NIL course fees for the internship entry. That does not mean IIRS pays the applicant, covers living expenses or provides a scholarship. The opportunity should be assessed on its academic relevance and the applicant’s ability to meet their own costs, rather than on an assumed financial benefit. Selection, project allocation and the work environment
IIRS says applications are scrutinised by the relevant centre or unit. Placement depends on the availability of expertise, projects, facilities and supervision, together with how closely the student’s course fits the work undertaken. Faculty willingness and current commitments also affect whether a student can be accommodated.
The notice does not guarantee a specific software, data-science or remote-sensing assignment to every selected applicant. It does not announce a common daily task list, workweek or interview timetable. Applicants should obtain the actual project scope and reporting arrangements from IIRS instead of assuming that a general institute internship guarantees a particular technical role.

The programme’s start and completion dates are shown as awaiting announcement. Do not treat the application deadline as the joining date. Recheck the admissions entry and any subsequent IIRS communication before submitting, and avoid making non-refundable travel arrangements without written acceptance and confirmed dates.
