This is a staff recruitment exercise, not an internship programme. The qualifications differ substantially between post codes, so applicants should identify their discipline and reservation category before registering. This guide summarises the official advertisement and portal instructions checked on 18 September 2026. The complete notification and any subsequent amendments on the official website remain authoritative.

About the Institute and Work Locations

CSIR-NEERI is a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. CSIR is an autonomous body under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and Technology. The institute is headquartered in Nagpur and has regional centres in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

These positions involve institutional, laboratory, field, site or other assigned work rather than an advertised work-from-home arrangement. The notification also provides for transfer to other CSIR laboratories or institutes when required. Selected candidates normally undergo one year of probation, which the competent authority may extend or curtail under the rules.

Post-wise Vacancies and Essential Qualifications

The following table separates the disciplines instead of treating every science or engineering degree as interchangeable. Where the notification permits an equivalent qualification, applicants must substantiate equivalence with the required official documentation.

Post code and discipline Vacancies and reservation Essential qualification
TA-01: Technical Assistant 1: EWS BSc or equivalent with at least 60% marks, plus one year of Science Communication experience from a recognised institute or organisation.
TO-01: Civil Engineering 4: UR 2, EWS 1, ST 1 BE/BTech or equivalent in Civil Engineering with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-02: Biochemistry 1: UR MSc or equivalent in Biochemistry with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-03: Microbiology 1: SC MSc or equivalent in Microbiology with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-04: Chemical Engineering 2: OBC-NCL 1, SC 1 BE/BTech or equivalent in Chemical Engineering with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-05: Chemistry 1: UR MSc or equivalent in Chemistry with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-06: Geo-informatics 1: OBC-NCL BE/BTech or equivalent in Geo-informatics with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-07: Geology 1: UR MSc or equivalent in Geology with at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA.
TO-08: Management 1: UR MBA with at least 55% marks.

Across the Technical Officer posts, the distribution is UR 6, EWS 1, OBC-NCL 2, SC 2 and ST 1. One of the 13 vacancies is reserved horizontally for PwBD category (a), blindness and low vision, and is identified under TO-04. This is included in the total, not an additional vacancy. Applicants should check disability suitability and certificate requirements in the notice. Vacancy numbers are provisional.

Nature of the Work

The Technical Assistant role includes science dissemination, policy-related work and project management within the institute's mandate. Its Science Communication experience requirement is therefore important: a BSc alone does not satisfy all the advertised conditions.

The engineering and science Technical Officer posts support institutional scientific facilities, laboratories, sites or field activities. The MBA post covers work associated with marketing, business development, intellectual property rights and business analytics. Duties may also include other assignments specified by the competent authority. A Technical Officer title here should not be mistaken for a generic software-development vacancy.

Age Limits and Eligibility Cut-off

Applicants must be Indian citizens. The minimum age is 18 years. The advertised upper age is 28 years for Technical Assistant and 30 years for Technical Officer, determined as on 15 October 2026. Qualifications and prescribed experience must also be held by the closing date; final academic results must have been declared by then.

The notice provides five years of upper-age relaxation for SC/ST candidates and three years for OBC-NCL candidates against posts reserved for their respective categories. These concessions do not automatically apply when such candidates compete for unreserved posts. PwBD concessions, ex-servicemen provisions and other permitted relaxations have separate conditions; candidates should use the applicable section rather than assuming every concession can be combined.

Where experience is prescribed, it must be relevant and acquired after the essential qualification. Supporting certificates should show dates and the nature of work. Having a higher degree does not remove a mandatory discipline, minimum percentage or experience requirement. CGPA holders must provide their institution's conversion formula where required.

Salary and Benefits: What the Figures Mean

The Technical Assistant is placed in Pay Level 6, with advertised approximate monthly total emoluments of ₹69,480. Technical Officers are in Pay Level 7, with approximate monthly total emoluments of ₹86,580. These are not basic-pay figures or guaranteed take-home salaries.

The estimates include components such as basic pay, DA, HRA and transport allowance at the minimum of the scale, using Nagpur headquarters rates. HRA and transport allowance can differ at regional centres. Government accommodation affects HRA entitlement. Medical reimbursement, leave travel concession, children's education benefits and retirement contributions are governed by the applicable rules, not an independently promised package.

Selection Process and Written Examination

A screening committee assesses applications before eligible shortlisted candidates are invited to the relevant trade test. The trade test is qualifying. Candidates who clear it proceed to the competitive written examination. Meeting the minimum qualification does not itself guarantee a test invitation or appointment.

Both designations have an objective examination comprising 200 questions over three hours. Technical Assistant questions are at graduation level based on the advertised qualification; Technical Officer questions are at postgraduate or BTech level as applicable. Questions are in English and Hindi, except the English-language component.

  • Paper I: Mental Ability, 50 questions for 100 marks, one hour. Each correct answer carries two marks, with no negative marking.
  • Paper II: General Awareness and English, 25 questions each, 150 marks in total, 30 minutes. Correct answers carry three marks; wrong answers attract one negative mark.
  • Paper III: The concerned subject, 100 questions for 300 marks, 90 minutes. Correct answers carry three marks; wrong answers attract one negative mark.

Papers II and III are evaluated only after a candidate reaches the prescribed threshold in Paper I. Final merit is based on Papers II and III. Test dates, venues and related instructions will be announced separately. The advertised venue arrangement is Nagpur and/or a city with a CSIR-NEERI regional centre; applicants should follow their eventual official call instructions.

Application Fee and Exemptions

The non-refundable application fee is ₹500 where applicable, paid through the portal's State Bank Collect process. SC, ST, PwBD, women and ex-servicemen candidates are exempt, subject to supporting their claim as instructed. Fee payment alone is insufficient: applicants must update payment details and upload the receipt in the recruitment portal before the deadline.

A candidate may apply for multiple post codes if independently eligible for each. However, each post code requires its own application and applicable fee. Keep the post code, application number and payment details consistent. Do not assume one application or receipt automatically covers every discipline.

How to Apply Online

  1. Open the official CSIR-NEERI recruitment webpage and read the advertisement, instructions and fee-payment guidance.
  2. Choose a suitable post code after checking your qualification, category, age and any required experience.
  3. Register using your name, active email address and mobile number. Keep the email active throughout recruitment.
  4. Log in and complete your profile and application carefully. Basic registration details have editing restrictions.
  5. Upload your photograph, signature and applicable supporting documents. Review every entry before final submission.
  6. Submit the application. If a fee is payable, complete SBI Collect payment and enter the transaction information and receipt in the portal.
  7. Download and print the successfully submitted application and payment details before 5:00 PM on 15 October. Keep signed copies and supporting documents for verification.

No amendments are permitted after final submission. The application and payment print facility is also stated to close with the application window, so do not postpone saving your records. Printed documents should be retained and produced when requested; this is an online application process, not a direction to mail an unsolicited application packet.

Documents to Prepare

The portal asks for a recent colour photograph and signature in JPEG format, each within 50 KB. Its instructions specify a 200-by-150-pixel photograph and a 50-by-150-pixel signature, expressed as height by width. Supporting documents are uploaded as PDFs, with each file within 1 MB.

Prepare date-of-birth proof, educational certificates and marksheets, relevant experience evidence, and applicable category, disability or ex-servicemen documents. Regular employees of government, CSIR, universities, autonomous bodies or PSUs should follow the employer-intimation and NOC requirements. Check that names, percentages, dates and post codes match the supporting records before submitting.

Final Checklist and Official Links

Before applying, verify the exact discipline, reservation category, marks threshold, experience condition and age cut-off for your selected post. Retain the complete submitted application rather than only a registration email. Monitor the official website for screening lists, examination notices and corrigenda. For operational difficulties with online submission, the portal provides helpdesk@csirneeri.in.

Apply through the official CSIR-NEERI recruitment portal. The official advertisement page contains the detailed notification, while the application instructions explain submission requirements. Jobsii is sharing recruitment information, not accepting applications or guaranteeing selection.
