Medical Officer-SD Recruitment 2026
ISRO Human Space Flight Centre (HSFC), Bengaluru, is accepting applications for four Medical Officer-SD vacancies under advertisement HSFC:02:RMT:2026, dated 9 October 2026. The openings cover General Medicine, Physiology and Aerospace Medicine. These are specialised Group A medical posts, not an engineering internship or a general graduate recruitment drive.
Applications must reach HSFC by 8 November 2026 through ordinary post only. Although the ISRO summary page uses an “online” submission label, the detailed advertisement repeatedly requires a typed, signed physical application sent by ordinary post. It explicitly excludes electronic applications, email submissions and hand delivery. Applicants should follow that detailed procedure and allow sufficient time for postal delivery.
Vacancies and required specialisations
| Post code | Discipline | Vacancies | Essential qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | General Medicine / Internal Medicine | 1, UR | MD or DNB in General Medicine / Internal Medicine, with MBBS as prerequisite |
| 02 | Physiology | 1, UR | MD in Physiology, with MBBS as prerequisite |
| 03 | Aerospace Medicine | 2, UR | MD in Aerospace Medicine, with MBBS as prerequisite |
The four vacancies are provisional and may change according to organisational requirements. Candidates wishing to apply for more than one post code must submit a separate application for each. Eligibility must be satisfied by the closing date, 8 November 2026; an expected future qualification should not be treated as an already completed requirement.
Eligibility, registration and age
Only Indian nationals may apply. The essential qualifications must be recognised and registered with the appropriate Medical Council of India, State Medical Council or National Medical Commission. Foreign degrees require the prescribed equivalence ratification and documentary proof. Candidates registered with a State Medical Council must submit National Medical Commission registration at joining if selected.
The general conditions also specify at least second class in MBBS and MD with compulsory rotatory internship. Applicants should check all qualification conditions against their chosen post code, particularly when relying on the DNB option listed for General Medicine. Professional courses pursued through Open and Distance Learning are not eligible. The advertisement states that there is no upper age limit for post codes 01–03; this does not remove the medical, qualification or nationality requirements.
Pay and nature of appointment
The posts are in Pay Matrix Level 11, with the scale ₹67,700–₹2,08,700. The advertised starting amount is ₹67,700 per month plus Non-Practicing Allowance at 20% of basic pay and admissible allowances. The upper end of the pay scale is not the starting salary, and the advertised amount should not be described as guaranteed take-home pay.
DA, HRA and transport allowance are subject to the applicable rules. The notice also describes medical facilities, subsidised canteen access, quarters in lieu of HRA and other benefits according to Department of Space/Central Government orders. The posts are temporary but likely to continue. Bengaluru is the advertised location, while HSFC/ISRO retains the right to place selected candidates at other ISRO/Department of Space centres or units in India when required. No work-from-home arrangement is advertised.
Work areas and selection
The General Medicine role includes clinical assessment, emergency care, interpretation of investigations and health-monitoring research relevant to human spaceflight. Physiology work includes baseline profiling, monitoring adaptations during training, studying physiological responses and supporting recovery research. Aerospace Medicine responsibilities include astronaut medical selection, health standards, training health monitoring, medical tele-support and post-flight rehabilitation.
These are indicative areas rather than an exhaustive duty list. Selection consists of application screening followed by an interview. Meeting the minimum qualification does not guarantee an interview call. Final selection is based on interview performance, subject to the stated verification and fitness requirements. Candidates should monitor their registered email and the official HSFC/ISRO websites for interview communication and updates.
Application fee and conditional refund
All applicants initially pay ₹750 per application through BharatKosh/NTRP using the detailed instructions in Annexure II. The notice identifies a ₹250 non-refundable application fee. Refunds apply only to candidates who actually attend the interview: ₹750 for the specified exempt categories—women, SC/ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen—and ₹500 for other candidates after deducting the application fee.
Refund is not considered for candidates who do not appear for the interview. Correct bank details are required, and platform service charges, if any, are borne by the applicant. Attach the payment receipt to the application and retain a copy. The fee-payment deadline is also 8 November 2026; use the official payment instructions rather than an intermediary’s payment link.
