DRDO DRDE Paid Internship Scheme 2027

DRDO — Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior invites Indian students for its paid internship scheme beginning from 1 January 2027. Advertisement DRDE/HRD/Paid Intern/2026/03 is dated 15 October 2026 and lists eight seats across biological sciences, chemical sciences and engineering. The internship requires a minimum six-month commitment at the laboratory in Gwalior. Applications must reach the establishment by 14 November 2026. The stipend is ₹5,000 per month, but payments are made after three and six months rather than as a monthly transfer.

Key details

  • Organisation: DRDO — Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior.
  • Work arrangement: Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh — on-site laboratory.
  • Duration: 6 months minimum.
  • Compensation: ₹5,000/month fixed; paid in two ₹15,000 instalments.
  • Apply by: 14 November 2026.

Eight seats across three subject groups

The notice separates the available seats by subject code. Code 01 covers Biological Sciences, with three seats. Code 02 covers Chemical Sciences, also with three seats. Code 03 covers Engineering, with two seats. The establishment may change the number of vacancies according to organisational requirements, and unfilled vacancies may be merged with other subjects. These are internship seats, not permanent government vacancies.

  • Biological Sciences: pursuing an MSc or equivalent in the third/fourth semester, or BTech in the seventh/eighth semester, in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Toxicology or Immunology.
  • Chemical Sciences: pursuing MSc or equivalent in the third/fourth semester in Organic, Inorganic or Analytical Chemistry.
  • Engineering: pursuing BE/BTech in the seventh/eighth semester in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Sciences.

Academic, age and sponsorship requirements

Applicants must be Indian citizens and studying at an AICTE/UGC-approved college or university. The notice requires a good academic record with at least 75% marks or a CGPA of 7.5 or above. The age limit is below 28 years as on 14 November 2026. A recent referral or sponsorship letter from the current college or university is also required.

Do not read this as an opening for every graduate or every engineering branch. The listed semester and discipline restrictions matter. The attached sponsorship format is to be printed on the college letterhead and signed by the Principal or Head of Department. It confirms that the institution has no objection to the student joining and will release the student for the full tenure.

Stipend: fixed amount, deferred payments

The monthly stipend rate is fixed at ₹5,000. For the six-month internship, the notice specifies two equal payments: ₹15,000 after completing three months and ₹15,000 after completing six months. Applicants therefore need to plan for the gap before the first payment; the announcement does not promise a ₹5,000 bank transfer at the end of every month.

No boarding or lodging expenses are admissible, and DRDO will not provide accommodation. No travel or daily allowance is payable for joining. These limitations are important for applicants who would need to move to Gwalior. The internship offer also does not confer a right to absorption or a permanent job in DRDO.

Selection and tentative dates

Candidates are shortlisted on the basis of educational qualifications and fulfilment of the eligibility conditions. Merely applying or meeting the criteria does not guarantee a paid internship. If required, DRDE may interact with candidates by telephone or video conference. Only shortlisted candidates will be informed about an interaction or internship offer.

The important-dates table gives 14 November 2026 as the last date for receipt of applications, 1 December 2026 as the tentative intimation date for selected students, and 1 January 2027 as the tentative internship start. The notice gives no closing-hour timestamp, so applicants should not invent an end-of-day online deadline. Incomplete, erroneous or late applications are rejected.

Documents and submission method

Use the application form in Annexure A with a recent passport-size photograph. The required supporting material includes the college referral/sponsorship letter, a detailed resume, self-attested academic qualification certificates and marksheets, applicable experience certificates, Aadhaar and PAN copies, and bank details. Read the official form for all fields and ensure the selected subject code matches your course.

The notice permits submission by speed post or email to the Director, DRDE, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, Jhansi Road, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, PIN 474002. The listed official email addresses are director.drde@gov.in and hrd.drde@gov.in. Use only the official notice and these official submission channels for sensitive identity or banking documents; do not send such documents to Jobsii.

Conditions during the internship

Working hours follow the laboratory schedule, and attendance is recorded according to the establishment’s process. The notice permits no leave except sick leave supported by a valid prescription; applicable gazetted/closed holidays remain available. A progress report is due after three months, followed by a project report after six months or completion. Successful completion and submission of the report lead to a certificate.

Original sponsorship, qualification, age, identity and address documents are checked when reporting. Interns must provide the prescribed Official Secrets Act and Ministry of Defence IT-rule undertakings. The campus restrictions expressly prohibit carrying electronic items such as smartphones, pen drives, laptops and CD-ROMs inside DRDE. Review these conditions before accepting an offer, not only the stipend headline.
