Digital India Internship Scheme for NIC (Winter 2026 Batch)
What is the opportunity?
NIC is accepting applications for its Digital India Internship Scheme, Winter 2026 batch. The programme offers supervised practical work on government information-technology projects. It is an offline internship at NIC Headquarters in New Delhi and NIC State Centres. It should not be treated as a WFH offer. The official schedule gives 13 November 2026 as the application deadline and 1 December 2026 as the start date.
Eligibility: check both your course and year
Applicants must be Indian students from recognised universities in India and have at least 60% in the last held degree or certificate examination. The listed qualifications include BE/BTech, ME/MTech, MCA, MSc Electronics, MSc Computer Science, MSc IT and DoEACC B level. The guidelines exclude students in their final semester and students who will pass out in summer 2027. Meeting a degree title alone does not establish eligibility: use the course-year table and these exclusions together.
Course-year requirements
The table lists third-year BE/BTech students, including lateral-entry students; first-year ME/MTech/MSc CS/MSc IT students; second-year MCA students; fourth-year dual-degree ME/MTech students; and DoEACC B-level candidates with the listed Diploma/Graduation/DoEACC A-level background. The table does not give a separate year entry for MSc Electronics. Applicants should read the exact official table rather than assume an unlisted course/year combination is covered.
Duration and subject areas
The minimum duration is two months, with extension up to three months depending on performance, NIC’s requirements and the intern’s availability. The official guidelines list 50 students. Areas include AI/ML, data analytics, cloud computing, blockchain, microservices, Angular/React, PHP, DevOps, chatbots, IoT, cybersecurity, quantum computing and cryptography, mobile apps, open APIs, UI/UX, networking, dotnet, Java, NodeJS, GIS, databases and Python. Applicants may choose a maximum of two areas of interest.
Remuneration and attendance
The remuneration is ₹10,000 per month, conditional on satisfactory performance certified by the supervisor or mentor. Payment is made after the internship is completed and NIC accepts the report. This is not a promise of monthly advance payment. Interns must normally attend NIC premises and follow office timings unless the supervisor gives written permission otherwise. Accommodation must be arranged by the intern.
Documents and application preparation
Apply online through the official NIC internship portal. The guidelines require an institution recommendation on its letterhead, certificates for completed degrees and the latest result available. A Statement of Purpose must contain 100–250 words. Candidates using CGPA must provide a self-declaration explaining conversion to percentage and the official university/institute link to the conversion formula. Provide truthful academic details: incorrect degrees, certificates or marks can lead to rejection.
Selection and completion
NIC’s committee shortlists and selects candidates; meeting minimum qualifications does not guarantee a place. The timeline lists selection on 16–20 November, results and offers on 20 November, and confirmation by selected applicants on 23–25 November. Read the timeline for wait-list procedures if relevant. Interns work with a scientific or technical mentor, complete a report and presentation, and submit the required no-demand documentation. A completion certificate depends on completion and an accepted, countersigned report.
Responsibilities and limits
The guidelines require professional conduct, confidentiality and respect for NIC’s intellectual property. Internship work does not confer employment or a right to a future NIC job. Review these conditions before accepting an offer. The programme’s official launch date is 2 November 2026; its current application route and documents were checked on 3 November 2026.
