Mathematics Junior Research Fellow – 1 Position
DRDO Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Bengaluru, has announced one Junior Research Fellow position in Mathematics. Advertisement No. CAIR/HRT/JRF/2026/03 was published on DRDO's official vacancy page on 6 October 2026. The fellowship is intended for eligible Indian nationals interested in advanced research.
There are two different dates to remember: the prescribed application must reach the laboratory by email by 30 October 2026 at 5:00 p.m. IST, while the walk-in selection takes place on 24 November 2026. The later interview date is not a replacement for the email application deadline.
What is being offered?
- Fellowship: JRF in Mathematics, post code JRF-01.

This is a temporary paid research fellowship, not a student internship or a permanent DRDO appointment. The notice expressly says that a fellowship award does not confer any right to absorption in DRDO. Neither extension nor upgradation should be treated as automatic.
Essential Mathematics eligibility
The essential qualification is an MSc in Mathematics with First Division, from an institute or university meeting the advertisement's stated AICTE-accreditation condition, with NET/GATE qualification. Applicants should check the precise institutional and examination requirements in the notice against their own records before submitting the form.
The name Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics does not make this a general software-development or AI internship. This particular vacancy is for Mathematics. An interest in AI, a programming course or a different degree does not substitute for the essential qualification advertised for JRF-01.
Knowledge of lattice-based cryptography and proficiency in C and Python are desirable. They are useful areas to document through relevant academic or project work, but the notice lists them separately from the essential MSc and NET/GATE conditions. Do not confuse a desirable skill with permission to ignore the required academic qualification.
Age limit and category relaxation
The upper age limit is 28 years as on the closing date for receipt of applications, 30 October 2026. The notice allows up to five years of relaxation for SC/ST/PH and three years for OBC candidates. Applicants claiming a concession must produce the required original category or disability certificate issued by the competent authority.
Candidates currently employed in government departments, PSUs or autonomous bodies must produce a No Objection Certificate at the interview. The application and selection are subject to eligibility screening and later verification; receiving an application or appearing for a test does not establish an entitlement to the fellowship.
Send the application before 30 October, 5 p.m.
Use the application/bio-data format enclosed with the official advertisement. The notice instructs candidates to fill the bio-data in block letters and states that incomplete applications will be rejected. The format asks for educational records, qualifying examination details, employment information where relevant, contact details and a signed declaration.

Walk-in reporting, written test and interview
The walk-in is on 24 November 2026 at CAIR, DRDO Complex, C.V. Raman Nagar, Bengaluru 560093. Reporting is from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the main-gate reception. The notice says late arrivals will not be allowed to participate.
A written test starts from 10:00 a.m. Qualified candidates will be interviewed on the same day. The fellowship offer is based on the stated interview merit list. Come prepared for both stages rather than assuming that reporting alone leads directly to an appointment.
Documents and practical interview-day restrictions
Bring original degrees, academic certificates, marksheets and applicable community certificates, together with the required self-attested copies. Carry two recent passport-size colour photographs and a government-issued photo ID in original with a photocopy. The laboratory also permits candidates to bring a project report supporting their candidature.
No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview or joining if selected. Electronic items—including mobile phones, laptops, pen drives and smart watches—are prohibited inside the CAIR campus. Vehicle parking is not provided, and candidates are advised to use public transport. Plan travel around these stated restrictions and the reporting window.
