IGNCA Cultural Archives: Project Assistant Recruitment 2026

Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) has issued a notification dated 1 October 2026 for two Project Assistant positions in its Cultural Archives Unit. The engagement is purely contractual, initially for one year, with consolidated remuneration of Rs. 30,000 per month. Selection is through a walk-in interview in Delhi on 9 October 2026.

Candidates must report at 10 a.m.; application forms will not be accepted after 11 a.m. on the interview day. This is not an online-only application exercise and not a permanent civil-service appointment. Read the qualification and document requirements before travelling to the venue.

Recruitment overview

  • Organisation: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA).
  • Unit: Cultural Archives.
  • Position: Project Assistant.
  • Number of posts: two.
  • Notification date: 1 October 2026.
  • Initial contract: one year.
  • Consolidated remuneration: Rs. 30,000 monthly.
  • Walk-in interview: 9 October 2026.
  • Reporting time: 10 a.m.; forms not accepted after 11 a.m.
  • Venue: Office of HoD (JS), 2nd Floor, B-Wing, IGNCA, Janpath, Delhi.

About IGNCA and the engagement

IGNCA is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The notification describes its multidisciplinary and holistic approach to studying the arts in relation to the natural and human environment. The Cultural Archives Unit seeks the two assistants to support uninterrupted maintenance and day-to-day administration under official supervision.

The notice does not provide a detailed daily duty chart for these posts. It is reasonable to describe the engagement as supporting Cultural Archives maintenance and administration, but not to invent independent curatorial, conservation or digitisation projects as guaranteed assignments. Experience in those areas appears in the desirable-experience section.

Essential educational qualification

Candidates need a master's degree with at least 55 per cent marks from a recognised university in Museology, History, Archival Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Art History or a related or allied discipline. Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are also required.

The marks threshold and postgraduate requirement are material eligibility conditions. This opportunity should not be promoted as open to any undergraduate or to all degree holders regardless of subject and marks. Applicants relying on a related or equivalent qualification should bring the relevant evidence and follow the form's instructions about equivalence.

Desirable experience

Work experience in archives, museums, collection management, documentation, digitalisation or preventive conservation in a recognised institution is desirable. The notice does not prescribe a mandatory minimum number of years. Keep that distinction clear: suitable experience may strengthen an application, but the desirable wording should not be converted into an invented essential years-of-service rule.

As preparation advice, applicants can organise genuine examples of relevant academic, institutional or professional work and explain their own contribution. Avoid claiming experience based only on a course title. This advice does not create a portfolio requirement absent from the notice.

Age, contract and remuneration

The age limit is not more than 35 years as on the date of the walk-in interview, 9 October 2026. Calculate age using that date rather than the publication date of this article. No additional age-relaxation claim is made here because it has not been established in the reviewed notification.

The remuneration is Rs. 30,000 per month consolidated. It is not presented as a pay scale with additional guaranteed allowances. The initial one-year contract may be extended depending on the candidate's performance and the project's requirements. Extension is conditional; the notice does not promise indefinite employment or permanent absorption.

Documents to take to the walk-in

  • The filled application form provided with the official notification.
  • An updated resume.
  • Self-attested copies of academic marksheets from Class 10 onward.
  • Self-attested copies of relevant experience certificates and other testimonials.
  • Original documents for verification.
  • Original and copy of identity proof, such as Aadhaar, PAN, voter ID or driving licence.

The application form asks for personal and contact details, educational qualifications, employment history and additional information supporting suitability. It provides a declaration and signature requirement. Complete these sections accurately and use an authenticated additional sheet where the form allows one.

Selected candidates must submit two reference letters or testimonials at joining from a previous employer, organisation or institution where they worked or studied. These should have been issued within a month. This joining requirement is separate from the documents needed to participate in the walk-in interview.

Walk-in process and application steps

  1. Download and read the complete official notification and attached form.
  2. Check the master's-degree subject, minimum marks, English skills and age condition.
  3. Fill and sign the form and prepare the resume and self-attested copies.
  4. Arrange the originals and identity-proof copy for verification.
  5. Report to the Office of HoD (JS), 2nd Floor, B-Wing, IGNCA, Janpath, Delhi, at 10 a.m. on 9 October 2026.
  6. Do not arrive relying on a later submission: forms will not be accepted after 11 a.m.

Only eligible candidates will be allowed to appear after verification of original certificates. IGNCA reserves the right to accept or reject applications, and its selection or engagement decision is final under the notice. No application fee is stated in the reviewed document, and this article does not add an unofficial payment or online registration route.

Official reference and final reminder

Read the IGNCA notification and application form. The notice can also be checked through the IGNCA recruitments page. Before attending, check the official source for any correction or change and make sure all documents are ready. The key practical requirements are postgraduate eligibility, the age cut-off and punctual reporting for the 9 October walk-in.
