Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) has opened applications for 110 vacancies under Advertisement No. CPRI/06/2026, dated 19 September 2026. The recruitment includes engineering, scientific, technical, administrative and support posts. Eligible Indian nationals can apply through the online registration portal linked from CPRI's official career page.
This is a job recruitment exercise, not an internship or apprenticeship. Requirements differ substantially between posts: some require a valid GATE score, some require five years of relevant experience, and others accept the specified ITI or matriculation qualification. Applicants should choose a post only after checking its individual conditions.
Important restrictions: All 14 Multi-Tasking Staff Grade 1 vacancies are reserved for ex-servicemen. Assistant Grade II applicants need the specified NIELIT Basic Computer Course certificate in addition to their degree. The detailed advertisement closes registration and fee payment on 12 October 2026 at 5 PM. Do not assume applications remain open until midnight.

Educational qualifications and experience
Engineering Officer Grade 1
For Electrical, candidates need a first-class bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering from a recognised university. A valid GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the Electrical Engineering paper is also required.
For Civil, the requirement is a first-class bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology in Civil Engineering, together with a valid GATE score from 2024, 2025 or 2026 in the Civil Engineering paper. A degree from an unrelated branch or a different GATE paper should not be assumed acceptable.
Engineering Assistant and Scientific Assistant
Engineering Assistant applicants need a first-class three-year diploma in Engineering or Technology in the relevant advertised discipline: Electrical or Mechanical. They must also have five years of experience in the relevant field. These posts should therefore not be presented as diploma-fresher openings.
Scientific Assistant requires a first-class B.Sc. in Chemistry from a recognised university and five years of experience in the relevant subject field. Applicants should be ready to demonstrate both the qualification and the nature and duration of their experience.
Technician and Technical Attendant
Technician Grade 1 requires an ITI trade certificate in Electrical or Mechanical, matching the post selected. Technical Attendant Grade 1 requires matriculation or an equivalent pass from a recognised board. For Technical Attendant, a two-year ITI trade certificate in Electrical or Mechanical is listed as desirable, rather than as the essential qualification.
Assistant Grade II and MTS
Assistant Grade II requires a first-class BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BBA, BBM or BCA degree from a recognised university. Candidates must additionally hold a minimum Grade-B certificate in the Basic Computer Course conducted by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, by the application closing date. CPRI expressly states that other computer courses will not be accepted for this requirement.
MTS Grade 1, involving Watch and Ward duties, requires matriculation or an equivalent recognised-board qualification. Every vacancy in this post is reserved for ex-servicemen. Matriculation alone does not make a non-ex-serviceman eligible for these 14 posts.
Age requirements and reservation documents
Only Indian nationals aged at least 18 can apply. The advertised upper ages, before applicable relaxations, are 30 for Engineering Officer, Technical Attendant and Assistant Grade II; 35 for Engineering Assistant and Scientific Assistant; 28 for Technician Grade 1; and 25 for MTS Grade 1. Eligibility is assessed on 12 October 2026.
The notice provides for upper-age relaxation under Government of India norms and links reservation or relaxation benefits to the applicable reserved posts. Candidates must check the relevant category and supporting-certificate requirements rather than assume a relaxation applies automatically.
OBC applicants claiming reservation need the appropriate Central Government OBC non-creamy-layer status and a valid certificate. EWS applicants need the prescribed valid certificate from the competent authority. The category entered in the application cannot subsequently be changed under the stated instructions.
Pay levels and service conditions
- Engineering Officer Grade 1: Level 7, ₹44,900–1,42,400.
- Engineering Assistant and Scientific Assistant: Level 6, ₹35,400–1,12,400.
- Technician Grade 1: Level 2, ₹19,900–63,200.
- Assistant Grade II: Level 4, ₹25,500–81,100.
- Technical Attendant and MTS Grade 1: Level 1, ₹18,000–56,900.
These are the advertised Seventh Central Pay Commission pay-matrix scales, not guaranteed monthly take-home amounts. The notice also mentions applicable allowances and leave, LTC and medical benefits under institute rules and Government of India norms. Initial probation is two years for all posts.
Selection process
Engineering Officer selection is based on GATE score. Engineering Assistant and Scientific Assistant selection involves a Computer Based Test and a job-specific practical skill test. Technician Grade 1 selection is based on CBT performance, with candidates also required to qualify a trade test.
For Technical Attendant and Assistant Grade II, selection is based on CBT performance. MTS selection involves a CBT and a trade or proficiency test. CPRI states that ties in CBT or valid GATE scores will be resolved by placing the older candidate higher in the merit list.
The listed examination cities are Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Delhi and Kolkata. CPRI may allot a city other than the candidate's preference, and requests to change centres will not be entertained. Test venue, date and time will be communicated through the admit card or call letter. Candidates bear their own attendance expenses.
Application fees and exemptions
The fee, inclusive of GST, is ₹1,000 for each Engineering Officer, Engineering Assistant or Scientific Assistant post applied for. It is ₹700 for each Technician Grade 1, Assistant Grade II or Technical Attendant Grade 1 post. Any applicable bank transaction or processing charge is additional and payable by the candidate.
SC, ST, PwBD, ex-servicemen and women applicants are exempt from application fees. All MTS vacancies are reserved for ex-servicemen. Where a fee applies, an application without the prescribed payment will be rejected. Check payment completion rather than assuming that registration alone completes the application.
