Trainee Project Executive Recruitment 2026 — 31 Contract Posts

Goa Shipyard Limited has opened applications for 31 Trainee Project Executive vacancies under Advertisement No. 05/2026. The recruitment covers Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Finance and Naval Architecture disciplines. Eligible applicants must submit their forms through the GSL recruitment portal by 3 October 2026 at 5:00 PM. The advertisement and the live application portal were checked on 27 September 2026.

This is a contract recruitment by a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, not a permanent appointment or a student internship. Although the designation includes “Trainee,” candidates need at least one year of relevant experience or one year of graduate apprenticeship training by the specified cut-off. Read the discipline, reservation and experience conditions before paying the application fee.

Discipline-wise vacancies and reservation

The advertised vacancies are unfilled positions from Advertisements 02/2025 and 02/2026, now offered through an all-India advertisement. They should not be added to those older notices to calculate a larger vacancy total. GSL also reserves the right to change the number of vacancies or leave positions unfilled.

The disability abbreviations above follow the advertisement rather than substituting an unofficial interpretation. Applicants seeking a disability reservation must check the exact category and certificate conditions in the original notice. Do not assume that every discipline has an unreserved vacancy: the Mechanical row, for example, does not list a UR seat.

Educational qualifications

For the engineering disciplines, GSL specifies a full-time regular B.E., B.Tech. or four-year B.Sc. Engineering qualification from a recognised university or institute. The degree must fall within the relevant discipline or one of the accepted groupings listed below.

• Mechanical: Mechanical, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Mechanical and Production Engineering, or Marine Engineering.
• Electrical: Electrical, Electrical and Electronics, or Electrical and Instrumentation.
• Electronics: Electronics, Electronics and Communication, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electronics and Instrumentation, or Instrumentation and Control.
• Naval Architecture: Naval Architecture, Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering.

Lateral entry into the third semester of an eight-semester course, or the second year of a four-year course, is accepted as equivalent under the notice. Five-year integrated postgraduate professional technical courses after 10+2 are also permitted for the engineering disciplines. Candidates whose degree title differs from the listed groupings should seek clarification rather than presume equivalence.

For Finance, the qualification row specifies graduation along with a qualified Chartered Accountant credential from ICAI, a qualified Cost Accountant credential from the institution named in the notice, or a two-year postgraduate diploma/postgraduate degree in Finance. Applicants should read that complete row against their own qualification documents; an ordinary undergraduate degree alone is not presented as the Finance qualification.

Experience requirement: not a zero-experience fresher opening

Candidates must have at least one year of relevant experience or one year of graduate apprenticeship training as on 31 July 2026. Only post-qualification experience is considered. The notice expressly allows apprenticeship in any industry to be considered as experience for this advertisement.

This cut-off is earlier than the application deadline. Someone who completes the required period only in September cannot treat the October closing date as the experience cut-off. As a practical application check, compare the qualification completion date and the dates on experience or apprenticeship certificates before filling the form. That check is guidance for documenting eligibility, not an additional GSL requirement.

Age limits and category conditions

The upper age limits, measured on 31 July 2026, are 28 years for UR/EWS, 31 years for OBC and 33 years for SC/ST. The notice provides applicable government-rule relaxations for eligible categories, including PwBD, ex-servicemen and Agniveers. Candidates who completed graduate apprenticeship or advance training at GSL may receive relaxation corresponding to their qualifying GSL training period.

Reserved-category candidates may apply for UR vacancies when eligible. However, the notice says that applicants applying where their own reserved category has no vacancy are treated as general candidates without the corresponding relaxation. Category benefits therefore need to be checked against the specific discipline, not only against the candidate’s certificate.

SC/ST/OBC-NCL certificates must follow the prescribed government appointment format. The OBC-NCL certificate must not be more than six months old at joining. EWS and disability certificates must come from the designated authorities. Certificates issued in languages other than English or Hindi require a self-certified translation into either language. The notice also sets conditions on eligible disability certification, which applicants should read in full.

Consolidated pay, tenure and posting

The notification’s year-wise consolidated-pay column lists ₹35,000 for the first year, ₹38,000 for the second year and ₹40,000 for an extended third year. The third-year figure applies only if an extension is granted. The table does not expressly label the payment interval, so applicants should confirm payroll frequency and deductions in their appointment terms; these figures should not be treated as guaranteed take-home amounts.

For applicable statutory benefits such as provident fund and gratuity, 70% of consolidated pay is treated as basic pay. The initial two-year contract is not against a regular post, and GSL gives no assurance of permanent employment after it ends. Extension is discretionary, based on organisational requirements and individual performance.

Posting can be at GSL, another GSL unit or a project site. The appointment includes the obligation to serve in departments, aboard ships, or at worksites and projects in India or abroad as required. This is not advertised as a work-from-home role or a guaranteed Goa-only placement.

Selection process and assessment weightage

Selection comprises a written test, document verification and a group discussion/interview. The written test normally includes 25% general aptitude and 75% subject or trade-related questions. It may be computer-based or pen-and-paper based. Qualifying marks are 40% for General/EWS and 35% for SC/ST/PwBD/OBC-NCL candidates.

If applications are numerous, GSL may call candidates in a 1:5 ratio, based on written-test performance, for document verification and the subsequent group discussion/interview. Original supporting documents must be produced. Only candidates clearing document verification proceed to the next assessment.

The group discussion/interview also carries qualifying thresholds of 40% for General/EWS and 35% for the specified reserved categories. Final grading gives 85% weight to the written test and 15% to the group discussion/interview. Meeting a minimum qualifying score does not itself guarantee selection or appointment.

Application fee and documents to prepare

The non-refundable application fee is ₹500, payable online through SBI e-pay using the permitted payment methods. SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates are exempt. Present or past GSL graduate apprentices and GSL advance trainees are also exempt. The notice does not list a general exemption for every apprentice from another organisation.

Prepare a recent passport-size colour photograph and a scanned handwritten signature, each below 450 KB. The photograph should have a light background and an unobstructed face. The signature must be made in black ink on plain white paper, not digitally generated. The remaining upload limits are:

• SSC certificate for date of birth: up to 500 KB.
• Educational marksheets and degree: up to 1 MB.
• Caste or disability certificate, as applicable: up to 500 KB.
• Experience certificates: up to 1 MB.
• Aadhaar card: up to 500 KB.
