About NetZero and Problem Statements

NetZero centers on practical, focused problem-solving across four core environmental themes. Participants choose one problem statement and develop a concise case-study response.

  • Improving sodium-ion batteries for grid-scale storage — focused on advances for large-scale energy storage.
  • Increasing photovoltaic (PV) efficiency and thermal performance — focused on maximizing PV output and thermal behavior.
  • Reducing the cost of green hydrogen production — focused on lowering production costs for green hydrogen.
  • Measuring and reducing the environmental impact of digital/AI operations — focused on quantifying and mitigating digital and AI environmental footprints.

Each problem statement is intentionally specific so teams can prepare targeted, technically grounded submissions that address a core environmental challenge.

Format, Registration, Prizes and Contact

The competition runs in two rounds with clear submission formats and timelines. Eligibility is open to everyone, registration is free, and team size ranges from 1–4 members.

    • Submission format: one-page slider as a PDF.
    • Submission window: opens 31 Oct 2025 and closes 6 Nov 2025.
  • Round 2 (offline)
    • Qualified teams present an 8–10 slide PowerPoint (PPT).

    • Presentation format: 10-minute presentation followed by 5-minute Q&A.
