The Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) at IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) is a summer research program where selected students work with an IITGN faculty mentor on a research project. As per the official guidelines, SRIP 2026 will be conducted in offline (in-person) mode, and interns are expected to work on the project in person while staying on campus.

Important Dates (SRIP 2026)

  • Minimum internship duration: At least 8 weeks.

Additionally, the official SRIP 2026 flyer mentions:

  • Application starts: February 16, 2026 onwards
  • Duration window (flyer): Minimum duration of 8 weeks between May 7 to July 16, 2026

Eligibility: Who Can Apply (Official)

As per the official SRIP guidelines for students:

  • Eligibility: Students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at a prominent institution in India.

The official SRIP FAQ 2026 further states:

  • UG students: Students in first, second, and third year of UG studies are encouraged to apply.
  • PG students: Students in their first year of PG studies can also apply.
  • Indian nationals studying abroad: If you are a native of India and presently studying abroad, you are welcome to apply.

Duration & Commitment (Official)

  • Duration: At least 8 weeks within the summer break of IITGN.
  • Minimum commitment: A minimum commitment of 8 weeks is mandatory for SRIP.

Mode of Internship (SRIP 2026): Offline / In-Person

According to the official guidelines:

  • SRIP 2026 will be conducted in offline mode.
  • In in-person/offline mode, students are expected to work on the project in person and interact with the faculty mentor regularly while staying on campus.
  • This mode is open to all students (Internal and External).

Stipend, Hostel & Certificate (Official)

Stipend

  • Weekly stipend: Rs. 2000 per week.
  • Payment timing (official guideline): The weekly stipend is paid after completion of the internship.
  • Variation: The stipend may vary for faculty-funded projects.
  • Flyer note: The SRIP 2026 flyer mentions a stipend of Rs. 2000 per week for a maximum of 8 weeks.

Hostel

  • Hostel accommodation will be provided to summer interns.
  • Interns must pay the applicable hostel charges.
  • FAQ (current charges): INR 210 per day (as stated in the SRIP FAQ 2026).

Certificate

  • The SRIP FAQ 2026 states that students who have successfully completed SRIP according to their faculty guides will be provided certificates towards the end.

Program Requirements & Deliverables (Official)

The official SRIP guidelines clearly list the following requirements:

  • Faculty mentorship is mandatory: Applicants must work with an IITGN faculty.
    Applicants are advised to review the list of participating faculty and project descriptions before applying.
  • Discipline flexibility: Applicants may apply based on interest and prior experience and can apply to projects outside their declared degree specialization.
  • End-of-tenure deliverables: Interns must make a presentation to the institute and submit a report at the end of the tenure.

The official SRIP FAQ 2026 also adds:

  • Research proposal: Students are encouraged to start early; a research proposal is required one week after arriving at IITGN.
  • Poster presentation: Mandatory for IITGN students; external interns are encouraged to participate.
  • Report submission: SRIP report submission is mandatory for all interns at the end of the 8-week duration period.

Selection Process (Official)

As per the SRIP FAQ 2026:

  • Basis of selection: Candidate’s overall profile is reviewed including academic background, performance, research interests,
    alignment with proposed projects, and prior experience (if any).
  • How selection happens: Individual faculty members identify the most suitable candidate for their projects.
  • Result timeline: Results are expected to be announced on the SRIP website and emails will be sent to selected interns by the end of March.

How to Apply (Official) – Step-by-Step

  1. Choose your project/faculty: Review the participating faculty list and the project descriptions offered under SRIP.
  2. Apply online via the official SRIP portal:

  3. If applying to multiple projects: Submit a separate application for each project (multiple applications are permitted for different projects).
  4. Do not send hard copy: Applicants should not send a hard copy of the filled application form to IITGN.

Important Application Rules (Official FAQ)

  • Faculty emails after applying: You are not supposed to mail the faculty regarding the project after applying; such emails will be ignored.
  • Incorrect form data: If you entered incorrect data in the application, you can re-apply with correct data.
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP): The FAQ suggests including your research interests, why you want to intern at IITGN,
    and how you will contribute to the specific project based on your previous exposure/training.
