NHRC Online Short-Term Internship Programme — November 2026

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has invited applications for its two-week Online Short-Term Internship Programme for November 2026. The programme runs from 16 to 27 November 2026 and is open to eligible students across the country. Successful participants will receive a total stipend of ₹2,000. The application deadline is 25 October 2026 at 6 p.m.

This is a current, specifically dated November intake, not a general internship-information page or an announcement of a permanent government job. NHRC issued the notice on 15 October 2026, and its official application portal identifies the programme as OSTI-November 2026. Read the academic, age, availability and document conditions carefully before applying.

Who can apply?

The notice lists several academic groups. Students must be studying in the third year or beyond of an integrated five-year postgraduate course, or in the third/final year of a graduation course. Students in any semester or year of a postgraduate degree may apply; this also covers students in a three-year LLB programme. Students in any semester or year of a postgraduate diploma and research scholars in any stream are also included.

Candidates must have at least 60% marks in Class XII and in the first four semesters of their graduation or five-year integrated course. The notice requires applicants to clearly state the calculated percentage from CGPA or SGPA and the conversion formula. Failure to provide these details can result in rejection. Do not assume that a raw grade-point number alone satisfies the percentage requirement.

The age limit is not more than 28 years on 1 October 2026. Students who have previously attended any internship programme organised by NHRC are not eligible for this intake. These conditions should be checked before investing time in the statement of purpose and institutional recommendation.

Online does not mean flexible attendance

The internship is full time, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory, and the notice says leave applications will not be entertained. Applicants should make sure that their college timetable, examinations or other commitments do not prevent participation throughout 16–27 November.

Although participants join online, this is a structured learning programme with sessions and assignments. It should not be advertised as a self-paced course, an evening-only opportunity or a part-time placement. The certificate is linked to punctuality, discipline, session participation and timely submission of the required work.

What the programme covers

NHRC proposes around 30–35 sessions on human-rights issues. The course structure includes interaction with the Commission's Chairperson and Members, domain experts and senior Government of India officials. Group project work and a book-review activity are also listed.

The notice includes films on subjects such as child and bonded labour, anti-trafficking, health including mental health, and education. Virtual field visits to a jail, police station and NGO or shelter homes are intended to introduce interns to these institutions and allow related questions to be addressed. These are virtual visits, not an offer of a field posting or a separate paid employment assignment.

Stipend and selection

Students successfully completing the internship will receive ₹2,000 in total. This is not a ₹2,000 monthly stipend or a daily allowance. The participation certificate depends on the stated attendance, conduct and assignment requirements. Selection and completion are not guaranteed simply by submitting the form.

Merit is assessed out of 100 marks: Class XII accounts for 30 marks, graduation for 40 marks and the 250-word statement of purpose for 30 marks. The notice says students with research potential in human-rights-related areas will be preferred, and that this potential should be indicated in the write-up. Relevant co-curricular activities, moot courts, internships and research projects may strengthen the application.

Documents to prepare

Prepare attested copies of Class X and Class XII marksheets and marksheets for the first four semesters of graduation or the integrated course. The prescribed recommendation must come from the Principal, Head of Department or Dean of the institution where you are studying and include the required name, signature, date and stamp or seal. Annex-I in the official notice provides the format.

The current portal also asks candidates to have their present institution's identity card, last-examination marksheet, graduation documents if completed, and passport-size photograph ready. It specifies PDF documents of maximum 2 MB and a JPEG photograph not exceeding 70 KB. Check the current upload instructions against each required document before final submission.

How to apply

  1. Open the official November application guidelines using the link below.
  2. Read the current notice and confirm your eligibility, age and previous-internship status.
  3. Prepare the approximately 250-word statement of purpose and institutional recommendation.
  4. Complete mobile/email verification and enter your educational qualifications and marks in percentage form.
  5. Upload the required documents, check all mandatory fields and final-submit before 6 p.m. on 25 October 2026.
  6. Save the application number and monitor NHRC's website for the final selection list.

Applications by email or post are not accepted. The notice also permits applications through the NHRC India mobile app. Incorrect marks or percentage information can lead to rejection and exclusion from future programmes.
