Revised Vacancies: Check the 9 September Update
IBPS published a corrigendum on 9 September 2026 replacing the indicative vacancy details with an updated Annexure I. The correction explicitly leaves the other terms of the 1 September notification unchanged. The revised tables list vacancies by bank, post and reservation category, so candidates should use that version when considering their preferences.
The figures remain indicative and anticipated. Final provisional allotment depends on the actual vacancies reported by participating banks. A national headline total therefore does not tell an individual applicant how many places are available for their chosen post, State and category. Read the relevant bank rows, including the notes on disability and ex-servicemen reservations, directly on the official updates page.
Who Can Apply for Office Assistant and Officer Scale I?
Office Assistant applicants need a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized university, or an equivalent qualification. The official eligibility table does not prescribe previous post-qualification work experience for this post. Proficiency in the local language specified by the participating bank is required, while working knowledge of computers is desirable.
Officer Scale I, also described as Assistant Manager, similarly accepts a recognized bachelor's degree in any discipline or its equivalent. No previous work-experience requirement appears in the qualification table. The notification gives preference to certain subjects, including agriculture-related disciplines, information technology, management, law, economics and accountancy, but the basic degree requirement remains open to other disciplines.
For these two posts, local-language eligibility deserves particular attention. Studying the relevant State language in Class VIII or above, or holding the specified evidence, can establish proficiency. The notice also describes a period after joining for selected candidates to acquire proficiency if they do not meet that requirement at selection. Applicants should read the exact conditions instead of assuming that choosing a State automatically satisfies the language rule.
Officer Scale II and III: Experience Matters
Officer Scale II General Banking Officer requires a recognized bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 50% aggregate marks, together with two years of experience as an officer in a bank or financial institution. Officer Scale III requires at least 50% aggregate marks in a recognized bachelor's degree or equivalent and a minimum of five years of officer experience in a bank or financial institution.
Scale II also includes specialist routes. Information Technology Officer requires an eligible electronics, communication, computer science, IT or equivalent degree with at least 50% aggregate marks and one year of relevant experience. Chartered Accountant, Law Officer, Treasury Manager, Marketing Officer and Agricultural Officer have their own professional or subject requirements and experience conditions. These are not interchangeable graduate vacancies.
For example, Marketing Officer requires an MBA in Marketing and one year of relevant experience, while Treasury Manager accepts the specified CA or MBA Finance qualification with one year of relevant experience. Law Officer and Agricultural Officer have separate two-year experience conditions. Applicants must match their documents against the complete row for the specific specialist post before paying the fee.
Qualification Cutoff and Age Limits
Educational qualifications and the required post-qualification experience are assessed as of 21 September 2026. The qualifying result must have been declared by that date. Candidates will need evidence of the result date at the appropriate verification stage; simply appearing for a final examination is not the same as holding the required qualification.
Age is assessed as of 1 September 2026. The following ranges are the notification's basic limits before applicable relaxation. Candidates near a boundary should use the exact date-of-birth windows in the notice, because the wording differs between posts.
| Post | Basic age condition |
|---|---|
| Office Assistant | Between 18 and 28 years |
| Officer Scale I | Above 18 and below 30 years |
| Officer Scale II | Above 21 and below 32 years |
| Officer Scale III | Above 21 and below 40 years |
The notification provides upper-age relaxation for eligible categories, including five years for SC/ST, three years for OBC non-creamy layer and ten years for persons with benchmark disabilities. Other concessions and rules for combining relaxations are specified separately. Nationality, reservation certificates and any applicable eligibility-certificate requirements also form part of eligibility.
Application Fees
For Officer Scale I, II and III, the fee is Rs.175 inclusive of GST for SC, ST and PwBD applicants, and Rs.850 inclusive of GST for other applicants. For Office Assistants, the Rs.175 category also includes eligible ESM and DESM applicants; the fee for all other applicants is Rs.850. Bank transaction charges are payable separately where applicable.
A candidate may apply for Office Assistant and an Officer post through separate applications and separate fee payments. However, only one post in the Officer cadre may be selected: Scale I, Scale II or Scale III. Applying for multiple Officer scales is not permitted under the notification.
Selection Process and Examination Stages
Office Assistant selection involves Preliminary and Main examinations. Candidates must qualify through the preliminary stage to reach the Main examination, and provisional allotment is based on Main examination performance and the actual vacancies for the State or Union Territory applied for. The Office Assistant route does not include an interview.
Officer Scale I uses Preliminary and Main examinations followed by an interview for shortlisted candidates. Officer Scale II and III use a Single online examination followed by an interview. Candidates should therefore prepare for the pattern that belongs to their post rather than following one generic RRB exam plan.
The preliminary tests for Office Assistant and Scale I each contain 80 questions for 80 marks in 45 minutes, with separate section timings. Office Assistant tests Reasoning and Numerical Ability; Scale I tests Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude. The detailed notice explains the Main and specialist patterns, permitted test languages and scoring rules. Wrong answers in objective tests attract a penalty of one-fourth of the marks assigned to the question.
Important Dates and Later Updates
Registration and fee payment close on 21 September 2026. The detailed notice places preliminary examinations in November or December 2026, Main or Single examinations in December 2026 or February 2027, and Officer interviews tentatively in January or February 2027. The specific stage and post determine which date applies.
IBPS also describes a two-day correction window after registration closes, with the dates to be announced on its website. Candidates should not treat that later facility as an extension of the registration deadline. Check the official page for subsequent announcements, call letters and any changes to the tentative examination schedule.

Documents and Application Checks
Before starting, keep your degree and marks records, date-of-birth evidence, identification documents and applicable reservation certificates accessible. Experienced applicants should check that their employment evidence supports the required post-qualification period and role. Candidates claiming a disability-related facility should review the relevant scribe or compensatory-time instructions in the notification.
Compare your name, result date, marks and category across documents before completing registration. If your university awards grades, follow its official conversion method and retain the supporting evidence. A successful online submission does not itself establish eligibility; the bank and recruitment process will verify the relevant conditions later.
