About the Role:
We are seeking a talented Data Science Engineer with strong analytical skills and a passion for problem-solving to join the Oracle Retail Science R&D group. You will work in an agile, cross-functional environment alongside data scientists, software developers, and QA teams. Together, we develop cutting-edge data-driven applications to help retailers solve critical business problems such as forecasting sales, optimizing supply chains, and managing categories and assortments.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Data Science Engineer, you will:
- Front-End and Analytics Development:
- Develop Java and JavaScript code for web application UIs.
- Design and build RESTful web services.
- Data Processing and Analytics Implementation:
- Design and execute large-scale data mining and analytics processes using platforms like Spark and Kafka.
- Collaborate with data scientists to understand business problems and translate analytics algorithms into Java or Python implementations.
- Quality and Performance:
- Ensure the UI design meets functional, technical, and performance requirements.
- Identify and address application issues affecting system integrity.
- Collaboration and Architecture:
- Work with tech leads, scientists, and data science developers to maintain data architecture and align with project priorities.
- Review deliverables throughout development for quality and adherence to requirements.
Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong knowledge and experience in object-oriented programming with Java, Python, JavaScript, and HTML.
- Proficiency in designing and developing RESTful web services.
- Experience with parallel processing and job streaming platforms such as Spark and Kafka.
- Experience building responsive web applications and unit testing.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix operating systems, relational databases, and SQL query writing.
- Proficiency with Java frameworks like Spring.
- Data Science Skills:
- Understanding of basic data science concepts and experience with projects in optimization and data mining is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to balance multiple concurrent projects effectively.
- Self-motivated, accountable, and eager to learn in an agile environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience developing, modeling, and deploying enterprise solutions.
Nice to Have:
- Experience building web applications using Oracle JET technologies (HTML5, JavaScript, TypeScript, Knockout, jQuery, RequireJS, Node.js, CSS3, and SASS).
- Familiarity with Oracle APEX, Oracle Data Visualizer, OBIEE, and ODI.
- Understanding of cloud-native application development, including containers, Kubernetes, and Helm.
